The Bangles is a female American rock band from Los Angeles, California. He was popular in the 1980s, during which time he released three studio albums, including songs like Manic Monday, Walk Like an Egyptian and Eternal Flame. After a split in 1989, the group reformed in 1999, and released two new albums.
The group was formed in December 1980 in Los Angeles when Susanna Hoffs responded to a newspaper advertisement by Vicki and Debbi Peterson. They name briefly the group The Colors, then The Supersonic Bangs, and a little later The Bangs. But the existence of another group called Bangs in New Jersey forces them to change to The Bangles.
The band was originally part of the Paisley Underground scene, but their sound then turned more to pop rock. The members of the band, however, never renounced their origins, and show for example during concerts in the company of Sky Saxon des Seeds, mythical garage group of the 1960s. They released locally a first single, Getting out of Hand , which attracts the attention of Miles Copeland, the founder of IRS Records>. Copeland makes them sign with his label. Annette Zilinskas joined the group soon after and took the place of bassist, held until then by Vicki Peterson, who switched to solo guitar. The four young women record a five-part EP, called "The Bangles , released in May 1982>.
Annette Zilinskas left the band in 1983 to join the cowpunk band "Blood on the Saddle" . She is replaced by Michael Steele, former member of The Runaways. The band signed a contract with Columbia Records to record their first album. This one, All Over the Place comes out in April 1984 and includes singles Hero Takes a Fall and Going Down to Liverpool , taken from a title of Katrina and the Waves. These two titles become favorites of high school and student radio and the album gets good reviews. The clip of "Going Down to Liverpool" also draws attention because of the presence of Leonard Nimoy, the son of the latter, Adam, being a friend of Susanna Hoffs. All Over the Place ranks in the 80> place of the ranking Billboard 200>. The band is the first part of Cyndi Lauper's US tour.
