Parliament is an American group of funk, originally called The Parliaments.
The group was born, under the name The Parliaments, in George Clinton's hair salon in Plainfield, New Jersey. This name is quickly abandoned because of legal problems with Revilot and Atlantic Records, their record companies. At the same time, most members of the band play in the band Funkadelic, both groups publishing their albums under their respective names.
The legal problem concerning the name "The Parliaments" is solved in 1970, and Clinton signs Funkadelic with the label Invictus Records. The album Osmium comes out under the name Parliament and the single Breakdown reaches 30> place in the R & B ranking in 1971. The name Parliament is then abandoned a time because Funkadelic has much more success.
In the early 1970s, Bernie Worrell, Bootsy Collins and Catfish Collins joined Funkadelic, which released five albums until 1974. Funkadelic then signed at Casablanca Records as Parliament, outgoing Up for the Down Stroke which reached 10> place at ranking R & B but does not exceed 63> place in the pop standings. This song was the biggest tube of P-Funk. In 1975, Chocolate City came out, whose eponymous single reached 24> place.
