Westlife is an Irish pop group created in 1998. The group is a huge success in Ireland and the United Kingdom, but also throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa.

The group landed thirteen issues in the UK between 1999 and 2005; only Elvis Presley, the Beatles and Cliff Richard did better. Westlife is the only band in the history of the British charts to be number one with their first seven singles. It is also the only group to win four times the coveted 'record of the year' award in the UK. Westlife has sold nearly 40 million albums worldwide and has seven platinum albums.

The Westlife group was born in July 1998 as Westside, when Shane Filan, Kian Egan and Mark Feehily, from Sligo in northwestern Ireland and then members of a group called IOU, auditioned Nicky Byrne and Brian McFadden in Dublin. They are managed by Louis Walsh, who was already in charge of Boyzone, the largest boy band in the 1990s.

In 1998, the five boys played the first part of the Backstreet Boys concert in Dublin, and were then signed by Simon Cowell and BMG. Ronan Keating, leader of Boyzone, joins the team as co-manager.
