Zwan

Zwan is an American alternative rock band from Chicago, Illinois and Los Angeles, California. The group is formed one year after the separation of Smashing Pumpkins. It is initially composed of Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, Matt Sweeney and David Pajo (former musician of the Slint group). Paz Lenchantin will join the group in 2002. The band toured extensively in the United States before releasing their one and only album, Mary Star of the Sea. He separates as a result of internal tensions, some time after the end of his world tour. David Pajo will then release solo albums under different pseudonyms; Matt Sweeney will play with folk singer Will Oldham.

After the separation of Smashing Pumpkins, Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin assemble with Matt Sweeney (former member of Chavez and Skunk) to form Zwan. Corgan has been friends with Sweeney since the beginning of his career, and Sweeney was thanked by The Smashing Pumpkins on the album Siamese Dream. Sweeney recruits David Pajo (member of Slint, Papa M., Stereolab) on bass>. The band starts as a quartet at the end of 2001.

Zwan has two different incarnations. The first, is more common, version, the True Poets of Zwan (or simply Zwan), makes use of three guitars, a bass and drums. Zwan's only album, Mary Star of the Sea, is awarded to True Poets of Zwan>.

Djali Zwan, an acoustic incarnation of Zwan, featuring cellist Ana Lenchantin, announces a new studio album at the end of 2003, accompanied by an album and a DVD for early 2004. Corgan explains to Rolling Stone magazine: span class = "quote"> "Let's do it at Let It Be The album will be recorded live, with cameras rolling. When you have the DVD, you will be able to watch each take of the album. He describes the songs he wrote for Djali Zwan as "folk and rooted in traditional music". Billy Corgan, Linda Strawberry, and Matt Sweeney will be taking care of Jonas Åkerlund's credits for Spun, and will be credited as The Djali Zwan.
