Charli XCX , by her real name Charlotte Emma Aitchison , born August 2, 1992, is a British singer-songwriter.
Aitchison was born in Cambridge, and comes from a Scottish father and an Indian mother from Uganda. She attended Bishop's Stortford College, then decided to put her studies aside in 2010.
Aitchison began writing her own songs when she was 14 years old and began recording her first album with the help of her parents. In 2008, she starts posting demos and songs from the album on her MySpace page. It then attracts the attention of an organizer of illegal parties such as raves that invites him to perform on stage. The singer then chooses the scene name Charli XCX, his pseudonym on MSN. She released two singles, Franchesckaar! and a double face, Emelline / Art Bitch, with the Orgy Music label. The album she records in parallel, 14, is never published but copies are distributed during the raves in which it occurs.
She signed at Asylum Records in 2010 and then stopped the music momentarily during a period when she said she was "lost".
