The Chemical Brothers is an English electronic music duo founded in 1992 in Manchester and composed of Tom Rowlands and Ed Simon two former students in medieval history at the University of Manchester. Originally named The Dust Brothers, the group renamed itself The Chemical Brothers so as not to be confused with American producers of the same surname. . With artists like The Prodigy or Fatboy Slim, they pioneered big beat in the forefront of pop culture. They enjoyed widespread success when their second album Dig Your Own Hole dominated the UK charts in 1997. The duo is also known for its brilliant stage performances.

Ed Simons was born in Herne Hill, South London, on June 9, 1970 to a lawyer mother and an absent father. Simons's two main interests when he was young were airplanes and musicals. Simons attended two public schools in South London, Alleyn's School and Dulwich College. During his school years, he developed a penchant for groove and hip hop music after attending a club called The Mud Club at the age of 14. By the time he left school, his two main musical interests were two Manchester bands, New Order and The Smiths. he continued to study history, especially medieval history, at the University of Manchester.
