Dinosaur jr

Dinosaur Jr. is an independent American rock band from Amherst, Massachusetts.

J Mascis and Lou Barlow first play in a hardcore punk band called Deep Wound, between 1982 and 1984, alongside a future member of the Outpatients, before creating Dinosaur.

The group begins as Dinosaur, but changes quickly as another group, The Dinosaurs, threatens to sue them if they do not change it. Then the suffix "Jr."> is added. The band released their first three albums under their original band, then Lou Barlow left the band to form Sebadoh, Sentridoh and The Folk Implosion.

The following album, Green Mind, can be considered as a solo album by Jay Mascis because he recorded all the instruments alone. The group then integrates Mike Johnson on bass for concerts and recording albums. In 1993, they participated in the film's Judgment Night, with rapper Del tha Funkee Homosapien. Also released in 1993 is the album Where You Been, which is the band's biggest hit with more than 300,000 copies sold in the United States>. In 1997, on the album Hand It Over, Murph, left to play with the Lemonheads, is replaced by George Berz.

In 2005, the band reorganized in its original composition as part of concerts to promote the reissue of its first three albums on the label Merge >>>>>. Two concerts of this tour (including a date at Irving Plaza) are featured in the 2007 Live In The Middle East DVD >>>.
