Disillusion

Disillusion is a German progressive metal band, originally from

Zwickau, in the Land of Saxony. In 2000, the group relocates to Leipzig>.

Disillusion was formed in 1994 in Zwickau, in Saxony>, by five students. At that time, the band's musical style was geared towards thrash metal. In July of the same year, the band recorded a first 40-minute demo. In early 1996, Markus Espenhain left the group. The group then another demo called Subspace Insanity. They succeed thanks to this demo to sign with a label. In 1997, they record the Red demo. Despite a growing local success, and a prospect of making the group more serious, the enthusiasm of the members falls and they decide to separate in 1998. However, at the end of the year, Alexander Motz and Vurtox decide to continue. They write more songs, and try to recruit new members. In October 1999, they are joined by the guitarist Rajk Barthel, until the departure of Motz. Until 2000, they are trying to recruit a new drummer, who will become Jens Maluschka. Jörg Heinze will become the second guitarist of the group that same year.

In 2000, the group relocates to Leipzig>. The group gave some concerts in 2001 and then released the Three Neuron Kings demo EP which earned them their first positive reviews. The band sees the EP as melodic death metal in the lineage of Anathema, Opeth, Soilwork and Emperor. " In the spring of 2002, Disillusion is making its first appearance in Germany. Disillusion publishes its first studio album, Back to Times of Splendor, in 2004, highly appreciated by the specialized press >>>. The album is recorded between May and December 2003>. In early 2007, drummer Jens Maluschka leaves the group for personal reasons, and is replaced by Alex Disillusion Tscholakov. In July 2008, Jens returns to the group. The session bassist, Alla Fedynitch, is replaced in 2008 by Matthias Becker. On December 8, 2009, Andy Schmidt announces the departure of guitarist Rajk Barthel.

On March 21st, 2010, Disillusion announces a new album. On April 3, 2010, the group made its first appearance at the Theater-Fabrik in the space of two years. Here, they confirm the release of a new album, which is subsequently postponed. The recordings of their album are interrupted several times for some concerts. Since then, the status of the new album is uncertain. On May 29, 2015, the group plays in Vienna its album Back to Times of Splendor and announces its return. They play again at the end of 2015 at Fabrik-Theater>. They recruit a new bassist, Ben Haugg, in April 2016. For the beginning of October of the year, a new single called Alea is announced and published. The single was released on October 7, in digital and physical formats >>>.
