Electric Light Orchestra , often abbreviated ELO , is a British rock band from Birmingham, England. His music is a cross of classic influences, rock and pop. He met with great success in the 1970s with songs like Roll Over Beethoven, Mr. Blue Sky, Telephone Line or Evil Woman and Mr Radio
The group was formed by Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood and Bev Bevan in 1970 with the intention of creating a new genre of music using violin and cello in a rock context. The three men originally tried to lead ELO's experimentation with the more "conventional" exits of their previous group, The Move, but it was not long before it totally disappeared in favor of the new formation. Roy Wood left ELO soon after the release of the first album, The Electric Light Orchestra (1971), judging that there is no place for two leaders in the same group, leaving Jeff Lynne alone master on board.
Roy Wood trained some of the musicians to form Wizzard, ELO recruits new musicians including keyboardist Richard Tandy and records ELO II in 1973 which contains one of his greatest hits: Roll Over Beethoven, cover of Chuck Berry which begins with an excerpt from the fifth symphony of Beethoven. Then follow the albums On the Third Day (1973) and Eldorado (1974), which contains the title Can not Get It Out of My Head.
In 1975, bassist and singer Kelly Groucutt and cellist Melvyn Gale joined the group for the recording of the album Face the Music, which marks an evolution towards a music extremely charged with sound effects. The phase of global success begins then. The album contains the songs Evil Woman and Strange Magic.
