Extreme is an American hard rock and funk metal band from Boston, Massachusetts. Formed in 1985, the band dissolves in 1996, then a return is born in 2007 for a new album and a world tour in 2008. Its greatest success is the single More Than Words , an acoustic ballad of the album Pornograffitti . The album III Sides to Every Story contains three parts: Yours , Mine and The Truth . The last part is a twenty-minute triptych, Everything Under the Sun , which plays an orchestra recorded at Abbey Road. The central part, intimist, morose and introspective, is written when the second album of the band was not sold.
Nuno Bettencourt briefly takes up Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child in Rest in Peace. In Peacemaker Die, there is Martin Luther King's speech beginning with "I have a dream ..." . After this very convoluted album, the band returns to a simpler style on Waiting For The Punchline. Success is no longer at the rendezvous. The successive singles do not allow the group to win, despite an opening tour of Aerosmith in 1994.
Following the break-up of the group in 1996, singer Gary Cherone is part of Van Halen in a brief way, for the album Van Halen III released in 1998 and Nuno Bettencourt chained groups such as Mourning Widows, Population 1 and DramaGods.
Extreme returns to the world stage in 2008 with the album Saudades de Rock . Gary Cherone has since formed the Hurtsmile band with his brother Mark Cherone on guitar, Joe Pessia on bass and Dana Spellman on drums. From 2009, Nuno Bettencourt becomes the official guitarist of Rihanna. In 2014 and 2015, Extreme embarks on a world tour Pornograffitti 25th Anniversary Live to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the album Pornograffitti .
