This song starts off excellent to my ear and just doesn't give up until the end, I like this a lot. I've heard a few of your songs here and there, although it's not my favorite style, you write very effective songs, and I still enjoy listening to them. That's always a good sign ;).

I'll tell you right now that the intro is my favorite part of the song, I love the use of the delay with clean guitars, it just sounds so floaty, and the drums are perfect. Really makes you want to hear more. Quite effective.

Verse 1 is great, Chorus is very effective and has that right "Chorus" singalong feel for this type of music (Correct me if I'm wrong =P).

Verse 2 is like Verse 1 but a few variations, well pulled off. I liked the interlude, that riffing style I appreciate a lot, and the lead was nice and trippy.

Wonderful bass and drum line afterwards, I loved that groove. By the way I wanted to mention, your drumming throughout the song is top notch, that really brings a song to a higher level to me.

Structure wise, very simple, very effective structure, you used it well and it worked for you, good job.

Well, every song has its cons (almost), so here's what I didn't like - the vocal line. Basically, all of it. That might be a pretty bad thing considering the style of music, but to me it's about the instrumentation, so it barely affects my thoughts on the song.

And Verse 3, with the harmonics on 4. I know what you tried to pull off, and that's fine, I just find the note itself is awkward.

Pretty much minor touchups to a great song though, and it might be moreso a question of taste.

I'd give this 4.5, but to me this song is worth a 4 for this reason - It's nothing that really stands out as absolutely unique to me, but it's above average.

So, a 4 for you =).

very solidly made song here. the rhythm section and the riffs are well done, there's little to fault throughout really in terms of construction. its highly melodic and sounds like you know how to get the sound you're after.
i was a bit underwhelmed by the vocal part however.

really i agree with jazzdeath's conclusion overall. very nice work.

I really like the drums in this song but the guitar riffs and vocals really didn't do anything for me. Its all put together well though and its very solid.

really solid song. Not too many problems with it. just the hamorics on 4, a different harmonic would probly fit in those parts better.

Despite people not liking the vocals, I liked them. The verses were probly the best parts for the vocals. The song itself was also to my liking the whole way through.

4/5*

The best part of this song is the effect of echo that you simulated. It was a very creative idea, however I found it to be slightly lacking in melody in the instruments. I also liked the vocal track, it actually fit with the song and you did a great job with it. I would give you 3.5 out of 5.

Shade Of Blue – „Action and Consequence”

Hehe, Shadecore... ^^ and I'm not saying that in a bad way... and me not saying that in a bad way is definitely saying something :P enough lame, empty words, and down to business – if a pretty regular, not too inspired-sounding c minor “core-ish” workout isn't flamed by me, then it means it's gotta have a hell lot of redeem value. This piece definitely does offer a lot of it – I really liked the fact that you introduced your “main” guitar melody as the “typical” Shade clean-and-delay, letting it shine before making it the core of the “core-ish” chorus :P there were many enjoyable riffs throughout the tune, the verse had my toe tapping along, and I dunno why but the interlude kinda reminded me of good ole “Torn” :P I also liked the vocals, they offered some pretty nice melodies and prevented the song (especially the chorus) making my ears go “yawn c minor mallcore turn off.nao.plz?”... far from original, but well executed and way better than the rest of the c minor pack.

Action And Consequence - Shade of Blue
Nice rhythmic intro and melodies. Although the main melody was simple, it worked with the rest of the song. I liked the drums. I liked the progressions. I liked the riffs. The lead and delay worked great in the Interlude, which I thought was the best part. I also liked the lead decay at the end, which could have been made more of in a longer outro. I wouldn't call this a heavy/hard song though, more like a classic rock song.

Sounds like nu-metal, or something very similar to it! I do not like this genre but this song has very nice riffs and ideas! The Intro section is catchy both in its clean and distorted version, with nice delay work. Then comes the verse riff, that is the only I didn't like in this tune; I didn't even like very much the vocal lines on the verses, but I have to say that they fit well on the riff. Then comes the Chorus, that is my favourite section of this song, well constructed and well structured (both music and vocal lines). The Interlude section (until bar 120) is pretty original and gives compactness to the song; then comes a little variation on the verse riff, and the final chorus that closes the song. In my opinion the song works well, and perfectly fits the style. Again I say, I do not listen to this genre at all, but this song is definitely well written! Last but not least: I liked very much the drum working, it contains some really nice ideas! 3.5 out of 5.

I loved it, besides the other song that I gave a high ranking to, I would rank on the top so far. There is only 1 issue I had with this song and it is the use of harmonics in a rhythm, it didn't work quite well or either it didn't convey the sound you were looking for through Guitar Pro.

I can also sense some SOAD influence in the intro, reminded me of Soldier Side.

I give it a 4

To me this is probably the best put together song in the comp. One fault with the song is the chorus though. I thought it was pretty underwhelming. I understand the ties you wanted to have between the intro and the chorus, but it lacked punch. The chorus didn’t really build intensity, however it didn’t drop intensity either, that’s why I’m not dropping your score more because really, a chorus in this kind of music is hella important. Besides the chorus, the rest of the song is spot on to me. The structure is great, the verses work well, the interlude has a nice feel, and the drum breakdown is sounding great. If you had a chorus with better intensity – maybe a better vocal line or something, and especially in the first chorus some kind of drumbeat I would probably have given you 4.5 but for now

Competition score : 77

Use and respect of Musical language : 8/10
Structure : 8/10
Orchestration : 8/10
Use of composition techniques : 15/20
Rhythm : 15/20
Melody : 8/10
Bass line : 6/10
Punch : 9/10

Advices : Put vocals on top of the score, sum rest when possible to keep a clear score. Nice ans solid structure fairly basic but efficient. Good use of a delay track to orchestrate this work. Good use of ostinato in the interlude. Nice verse riff really hooking but i tought the harmonics werent really effective maybe a long screaming one would have been better here and there to variate a bit. Rhyths seemed somewhat more redundant at the end some variations would have been welcome. Nice vocal melodies. Good punches happened at the right spots.

Key signature :
Nuances :
Melodic hook : Nice riff in verse
Originality : Didn’t sounded like something i already heard….
General appreciation : Good drumming overall
Commercial possibilities : with some polishing i guess
General use of GP software : Nice volume swells and delay track

3 ½ stars

Action and Consequence

A neat, almost flawless song we have here, though it could have been more than just that.
The intro is nothing great, sounds good, does the job. The drums enter perfectly. The guitar with crescendo doesnt sound well, but I guess that’s midi’s fault. Then enters what I think is the strong point in this song, the vocal melody lines. Togheter with the drums, they make this song stand a little higher than most of the songs in this style.
Nevertheless, I missed some kind of outstanding part in this song; something that would make me say “wow!”. The interlude (my favorite part) almost did that, but it just wasn’t enough. Also, what’s up with the off-key harmonics in the riff starting in bar 122? Sorry, but I don’t like how it sound at all.
Anyway, this song definitely falls in the “above-average” category, but it lacks of the “special thing” that makes a great song.

Final Rating: 3.5
