Hmm. Well, this isn't my favorite from you Beckill.

The song starts off fine, the intro is effective, the first Verse is pretty good, certainly at bar 22, which is probably my favorite riffing from the entire song. The chorus has a great melodic feel.

I'd say up to the Interlude the song is very promising, and after that I start getting lost within the orchestrations. The feeling starts to get a bit disjointed, and the original idea and feeling start to degrade for me.

The interlude itself, has an alright lead melody, but the backing riff seems a bit stale, uninspired. The Re-intro seems very disjointed, although the idea behind it is interesting, it really fails to keep my attention.

The solo is well, probably the solo you've written which I like the least, the acoustic track in the back is very distracting, and although the solo itself is decent, the feeling isn't there.

I think the drop of energy in the interlude never really climbed back up to a climax in a powerful way.

The part with the wailing is decent, but nothing really sticks out, and it falls back down in feeling at bar 128.

At bar 136 the transition back to the chorus is pretty good, and back to the chorus, but it just doesn't give off the same feel as the first time now.

The ending was fine, but really didn't convey any emotion.

What I think lacks in this song is the buildup that the interlude is supposed to bring upon, the climax just isn't there, and it seems to wander aimlessly around several ideas.

The instrumentation, by itself, is all pretty good, the drums and bass are my highlights for the instruments which were enjoyable from start to finish.

Hard to rate this one. I enjoy listening to a few parts by themselves, but as a song it's generally a let down. Maybe because I'm used to high quality songs from you =P.

I'll give it 3.5.

I think you had some good ideas in this song, but they were not carried out very well. The song is a little bit lacking in melody, and some of the solo guitars and vocals didn't go well with the rhythm guitar parts. For your ideas I give you 3 out of 5.

Beckkill – “Deviation”

*smiles widely* at long last, a SONG (:P) by Beckkill! ^^ this doesn't evolve like your usual piece does, it's more focused, but it only increases its power in my eyes. You wrote something petite (by yer standards), yet very focused. I love every single thing about the piece, be it the kewl nu metal tinging in the riffs (it's unbelievable how much grit you managed to pack, the guitars are only drop D and it sounds dam powerful!), the drifting acoustics (I actually like it all the way through, not disturbing), the powerful melodies in the vox... it's addicting, the more I listen to it the more I'm loving it. A special mention to the solo – it's very great, got some Vai without the ego (mostly due to the small slides and some phrasing... as in it creates the Vai feel, not the lack of ego :P) to it. It might be simpler than the majority of your creations, but somehow it doesn't detract from it in my eyes. Please, let it make it to the WIP album :P I wanna see what “wailing” means :P yeah, you prolly saw the rate coming, didn't you? :P

Deviation - Beckkill
Excellent intro. Great riff throughout. Melody was excellent as were the chord progressions. The song structure was good. I'd love to hear this as a non-midi GP5 file as you'd used midi (the sax vocal sucks!). The eastern feel underlay the attraction of this song. Even in the quieter sections, it still kept my interest. Great solo section, which fitted the song nicely. The mix of instruments works superbly. Another great song from you. Another good song from you although not quite your usual outstanding quality.

This piece sounds (again) like crossover-nu metal, and again I have to say this is definitely not my favourite metal style, anyway...The whole tune conveys some dark, gloomy feelings; the intro/verse riff is quite catchy, and the acoustic guitar on the verses gives even more pathos to the song. The Chorus line is well builted too: I liked especially the octaved-guitar melody, and the vocal line too. The Interlude sounds good too, but I didn't like much the last few bars (74-77). The Re-Intro section is very interesting, 'cause the bass comes in evidence. The Solo is nice: it has some gypsy feelings in it! Then comes some kind of "sing along" section, that is not bad at all, but maybe is a little too long. Then, at the end comes the last chorus to close the song, with a nice "Ending Section". As I said at the beginning, this is not my favourite style, but this is without any doubt a nice, well structured song. 4 out of 5.

I like the intro, has a creepy vibe to it. Verse one keeps with this vibe throughout it with the help of the acoustic guitar, especially with the acoustic riff at bars 22 & 23. i love guitar 2's riff during the chorus. Simple, but effective. The acoustic guitar during the solo did distract from the solo itself, sometimes sounding like it's trying to become a solo of it's own. The wailing was interesting, but I only noticed it was different from a chorus half way through. I liked what you did at the end of the wailing with guitar 2. The echo sound really help with the mood of the riff.

Loved it, except for the fact that there was "lyrics", kinda distracted me from the song itself. But otherwise it was a nice heavy song with what sounds like a middle eastern influence, even the pinch harmonics sounded great :D

I rate 4.5

Very very cool song. I like the main riff, with the rhythm guitar, and the lead guitar in the chorus has a nice feel to it. The structure is quite perfect as far as I consider it. The one negative thing I can mention is that the vocals sound very GP-written in some places. They work ok in the tab, but I'd like to hear something even more catchy in the real deal ;) The song is worth it.

I could go on and on about what I like, so I'll just leave it at this, it's a very cool song, and one that I'll be sure to listen to from time to time

Amazing song! The intro was great. Great atmosphere there. The acoustic guitar in the verse is excelent. The chorus was pretty good also. The transitions between parts are really smooth, the drums are perfect. Porbably the only downsides of this songs are: first, the vocals, are not bad, but it seems to me they dont fit so much, they could’ve been so much better; second, the solo. Sure, is well done, but again, doesn’t fit with the overall mood of the song, wich by the way is great.
You could have ended the song in the “interlude riff + wailing”, but you decided to add another chorus, well done there. Bars 128-137 where masterpiece worthy. The end is ok.
I think is the best song in the competition, but it misses the 5-star category by just a little bit.

Final Rating: 4,5
