I'm glad to see that some people are taking advantage of the fact that this is an open genre competition.

Some interesting instruments used here - percussive organ is such an underused instrument. Also nice to see someone who has mixed many different riffs etc and yet still allows everything to flow as an actual song.

My favorite part would have to be the verses - love that riff. My only possible complaint I have about this is that "..." comes a bit too sudden out of the blue.

My new favorite now - so I'll give you 4.5 (will be 5 if nothing better comes up).

Very nice dude. The lyrics had me laughing the entire time. The only part I didn't get was measure 42 and "/a" was a little weird but once "/b" hit that was great. That and the outro are my favorite part of the song. I also really like everything you did with the bass. And your choice of all the instruments you used was also nice.

Mmm well as a piece it flows pretty well save for the "..." part, myself I found it detracted from the feeling of the song, the switch into it at least did.

The ideas are all pretty well thought out, and I really enjoy your prog type distorted riffs. Music is pretty busy but often enough each instrument tends to have its place.

I won't go part by part, but my standout parts are the Interlude(Intro Revisited) and /b followed by a/2, that part was very very cool.

I'd say it's a greatly composed song, the structure is good, save the switch for ... made me scratch my head a bit, but other than that it's pretty good. (That ... part makes me think I'm playing Chrono Trigger out of the blue, totally killed the mood for me =/)

One thing is that I find the vocals come in too abruptly at the beggining... It's too sudden for my tastes.

Love the touches of humor throughout the song, very well pulled off yet doesn't make the song sound amateur, or like a joke composition, it just makes it all the more pleasant to listen to. The lyrics are pretty hilarious, kudos for that.

I'll give it four stars because although it's great to listen to... it's like something is missing. I can't tell you what, but something just stops it from being a really stunning song. It might be the intro and ending which are too abrupt... I don't know. It's a combination of little things which could be better throughout the song.

Still, this was a great listen, and above average in every means. Nicely done!

4 stars.

Well, you sure have some sense of humor! Those lyrics were freaking priceless - LOL

As for the song itself, it's quite nice, my favourite part being the verses (loved what you did with the muted guitar, especially bar 30 with the little let-ring, which I think is the high point of the song). Rhythmically it sounds a bit funky, with a really nice groove going on throughout and very loose and varied rhythmic figures - and that's (almost) always a good thing! Also, kudos for the orchestration skills - managed to combine several instruments without it becoming too busy, including some original stuff like bass overdub and percussive organ!

My only (small) piece of criticism has to do with the transition into [...], which feels a bit abrupt, because you make a key change from Em to C#m without introducing a cadence or a bridge. The transition back into Em for the final verses sounds better though, because it does have a small cadence (the D chord on bar 69 helps setting the Em key nicely). Also, this is more of a personal taste thing, but I felt there were excessive rests in the guitar solos - made the rhythm feel kinda sketchy in some points...

Rating 4 stars... would be 4.5 if it hadn't been for Quibokk's song... sorry :\

Really interesting and different. Didn't like the few bars from bar 42, but then it picked up again and got back on track. Some nice syncopation, good drums, melody was nice. I liked the structure. Especially liked the outro which left the song hanging, something unexpected. There were lots of different aspects which made this a good song.

Nice main riff!, pretty funky and definitely creative. While progressive, it

works and sounds right. The bass line is fantastic, the piano

may be a little overdone by covering close to a full range, which the guitar and

bass also share. The mid section (a2, b2 etc) is a little too stop start for my

liking, it continues for too long. The outro is nice. Overall its a very good tab

This song reminded me of Castlevania music, especially with the intro/interlude/outro. I like it’s gothic like melody, really set a creepy (in a good way) mood for the song. I did not like ‘…’ too much, changed the flow of the song in my opinion, just a little too far from the rhythm of the other riffs. Found the same problem with /a, just a little strange compared to the rest of the song. Though it fixed itself when /b came along.

No particular problems with the rest of the song. Liked what I heard and thought the song progressed nicely.

Very good song for me. I like the composition and the links between parts. I find it very entertaining.
Verse riff is great.

I think the last part should be improved.

Oh well… I wasn’t expecting less from you. So, I’m suposed to say what’s good about this song... uh... What’s not? I specially loved the percussive organ + muted guitar(I think it’s the organ is best damn instrument, but that’s another story)...
But, I’ve got to say something you may like, you may not, but I have to be honest, I think, a chorus wouldn’t hurt this song... I mean, there’s no “best part” in this song. That’s not good (I don’t want to say it’s bad)... What a shame, a chorus away from the 5 stars from me... (please take this in the best way possible, you know I love all your songs)

Overall pretty good song. All parts are excellent by themselves – use of lots of different techniques and nice use of different sounds like the muted guitar. I’ll focus on the bad parts about the song right now though.

You have transition problems at critical times which for me detract a great deal from the experience. The first example for me is the transition from intro into first verse. The sounds of these two parts are so distinctly different and the pacing is also somewhat different, and it only makes the change sound awkward. Introduction of the (…) part is not executed that well. The 5/4 bar beforehand seem to last too long compared to when the (…) part begins, probably thanks to the extra fourth note. Then the (…) part just seems very inconsistent with the former part, in the way the instrumentation is put together.

In the b part there is an odd groove, it’s likable though. However in b2, which is similar, the transition to the verse is awkward sounding again. I would suggest making bar 69 into 15/16 to make it flow better into the next bar and part.

All the parts mentioned detract from the impression as I listen to the song, because these quirks in the transitions disrupt the flow and thus the overall experience for me.

Another thing to note about the song as a whole is that although all the parts sound good I have a hard time connecting to some of the music - it sounds very mechanical in a way. But still, it’s a good song.

Hee hee, what an entertaining way to alphabetically open up the comp folder :P a potential listener is greeted by some really fun, superbly written, slightly tongue-in-cheek, slightly creepy music courtesy of you. The lyrics were a blast – pity you didn't go on with the tale, this way I shall never find out whether you managed to escape the dreaded porridge or not ;] however, the outro doesn't make me too hopeful... I feel for you, and I hope the you'll manage to have yer tastier cereal someday.

Now, on to the music – you're one of the best composers on the site, and it shows. Perfectly executed, don't have anything to point out that would bother me. The verses had a cool hugoish vibe, the break had me pondering whether to smile or run... but the middle section takes the cake. You evoke this fantastic Zappaesque vibe, wonderfully use stop-start rhythms, and drown me in a sea of neat, likeable melodies.

One more thing before I shut up – you said you tried experimenting with song structures... this structure isn't really that “experimental” – you get the intro, verse part, evolving middle part, verse part, outro. Unless you meant the middle part, then I see yer point ;] was a nice listen, and very well composed, I liked it a lot.
