I'm glad to see that some people are taking advantage of the fact that this is an open genre competition.

Some interesting instruments used here - percussive organ is such an underused instrument. Also nice to see someone who has mixed many different riffs etc and yet still allows everything to flow as an actual song.

My favorite part would have to be the verses - love that riff. My only possible complaint I have about this is that "..." comes a bit too sudden out of the blue.

My new favorite now - so I'll give you 4.5 (will be 5 if nothing better comes up).

Very nice dude. The lyrics had me laughing the entire time. The only part I didn't get was measure 42 and "/a" was a little weird but once "/b" hit that was great. That and the outro are my favorite part of the song. I also really like everything you did with the bass. And your choice of all the instruments you used was also nice.

Really interesting and different. Didn't like the few bars from bar 42, but then it picked up again and got back on track. Some nice syncopation, good drums, melody was nice. I liked the structure. Especially liked the outro which left the song hanging, something unexpected. There were lots of different aspects which made this a good song.

This song reminded me of Castlevania music, especially with the intro/interlude/outro. I like it’s gothic like melody, really set a creepy (in a good way) mood for the song. I did not like ‘…’ too much, changed the flow of the song in my opinion, just a little too far from the rhythm of the other riffs. Found the same problem with /a, just a little strange compared to the rest of the song. Though it fixed itself when /b came along.

No particular problems with the rest of the song. Liked what I heard and thought the song progressed nicely.

Very good song for me. I like the composition and the links between parts. I find it very entertaining.
Verse riff is great.

I think the last part should be improved.

Oh well… I wasn’t expecting less from you. So, I’m suposed to say what’s good about this song... uh... What’s not? I specially loved the percussive organ + muted guitar(I think it’s the organ is best damn instrument, but that’s another story)...
But, I’ve got to say something you may like, you may not, but I have to be honest, I think, a chorus wouldn’t hurt this song... I mean, there’s no “best part” in this song. That’s not good (I don’t want to say it’s bad)... What a shame, a chorus away from the 5 stars from me... (please take this in the best way possible, you know I love all your songs)

Overall pretty good song. All parts are excellent by themselves – use of lots of different techniques and nice use of different sounds like the muted guitar. I’ll focus on the bad parts about the song right now though.

You have transition problems at critical times which for me detract a great deal from the experience. The first example for me is the transition from intro into first verse. The sounds of these two parts are so distinctly different and the pacing is also somewhat different, and it only makes the change sound awkward. Introduction of the (…) part is not executed that well. The 5/4 bar beforehand seem to last too long compared to when the (…) part begins, probably thanks to the extra fourth note. Then the (…) part just seems very inconsistent with the former part, in the way the instrumentation is put together.

In the b part there is an odd groove, it’s likable though. However in b2, which is similar, the transition to the verse is awkward sounding again. I would suggest making bar 69 into 15/16 to make it flow better into the next bar and part.

All the parts mentioned detract from the impression as I listen to the song, because these quirks in the transitions disrupt the flow and thus the overall experience for me.

Another thing to note about the song as a whole is that although all the parts sound good I have a hard time connecting to some of the music - it sounds very mechanical in a way. But still, it’s a good song.

Hee hee, what an entertaining way to alphabetically open up the comp folder :P a potential listener is greeted by some really fun, superbly written, slightly tongue-in-cheek, slightly creepy music courtesy of you. The lyrics were a blast – pity you didn't go on with the tale, this way I shall never find out whether you managed to escape the dreaded porridge or not ;] however, the outro doesn't make me too hopeful... I feel for you, and I hope the you'll manage to have yer tastier cereal someday.

Now, on to the music – you're one of the best composers on the site, and it shows. Perfectly executed, don't have anything to point out that would bother me. The verses had a cool hugoish vibe, the break had me pondering whether to smile or run... but the middle section takes the cake. You evoke this fantastic Zappaesque vibe, wonderfully use stop-start rhythms, and drown me in a sea of neat, likeable melodies.

One more thing before I shut up – you said you tried experimenting with song structures... this structure isn't really that “experimental” – you get the intro, verse part, evolving middle part, verse part, outro. Unless you meant the middle part, then I see yer point ;] was a nice listen, and very well composed, I liked it a lot.

Daslaf - Cereal Killer

I like this "medley", cause that's what it is, right? It feels like a lot of different songs try to get together
in one big happy family, and they do, but there's the transition at bar 41-42, and it just doesn't click,
and sometimes, the shear amount of instrument doing different things at the same time feels overwhelming

- originality: It is original.
- composition technique: Excellent
- rhythm: Great
- appropriate key signature: No.
- song structure: Medleyish, too loosely connected.
- quality of notation/tablature: No complaints at all, good job
- orchestration: Too much happening at the same time and the song throughout
- use and respect of musical language: Yes.
- use and quality of
Melody = some re-occuring, but it still feels like there is too much going on.
Hooks = Not really.
Solos = Good
Riffs = Good
- mix of instruments and panning: Great
- general use of the GP software: Very good.

The intro was pretty good. It kinda clashes for me in a few parts though. The verse came in as a bit of a surprise, i personally wouldn't have used such diverse instruments. This verse, and everything all the way to section /a really just didn't work for me, I really couldn't catch on to anything, there was really nothing to remember of it. The /a sections were kickass though, and the first two bars of the /b melody was really good, very interesting, the choice of instruments here created a great sound. This is all pretty good up until the verse, which once again didn't work for me, I didn't think the ending was so hot either.
