A joke tune - not really a well thought out song but rather an experiment in modal theory and restricting myself to only 4 tracks.

Another crazy composition. When it started off I thought oh here is a straight ahead tune, then see ya and off it went. I loved the modal vamp. And great to see some e string chugging - GP doesn't sound that great but I cn imagine that it would sound great on a real guitar. I'll give it a crack later on. Good track, I'll give this one 3.5 out of 5. I feel like my track is very boring after hearing these...

The early part had a nice feel to it. I felt going into a solo at bar 21 was too early. The main riff is nice but a bit overpowering. Sorry, I didn't like riff 2 nor riff 2 variation. Interlude 2 was better. Drums were pretty good throughout. The improv/solo section was ok, but I just couldn't get into the feel of it; it felt disjointed. I didn't like the bridge. Then back to the main riff and outro, which was ok. This was not your usual excellent standard IMHO.

Hazardous Millenium Falcon Detour - Beckkill

Yet another nutty metal song. Well, maybe not as extreme as others, but there's still a little hint of crazy in there.

The main riff was fine - but I think it was repeated perhaps a little too much. Riff 2 to me was simply... a bit odd. I'm struggling to think what style that reminds me of... I think it's probably Stuart Hamm. Amazing bass player.

You captured an improv session quite well in the song, but I'm still in sorta two minds about it. Drumwork all the way through was well done. I have no knowledge of musical theory, so I can't commend you on something that I have no clue of. :P

A respectable song, but, like blackiel, I don't think it isn't your best by any means. Although, fortuately, it wasn't intended to be.

3 stars.

Beckkill – Hazardous Millenium Falcon Detour

You know what I think of this already, since I watched its creation process and poked you what to improve, even nagged you to leave me a solo spot (which you did)... it is indeed a slightly more “experimental” thing, the start of your modal craze for good... you're broadening your horizons, and then will go back to writing your usual badassery with the new tools at your disposal, no? On to the song, for formality more than anything – cool ditty, not up to your usual “out there” par level, but nonetheless enjoyable. Easy listening for something from you, doesn't require much focus. Who's that Rubbuh guy, can I kill him for ruining your piece with a goddamn shoddy solo? Simple, well written, likeable.

My main impression of this song is that it sounds like something Satriani or Steve Vai would compose ;). Anyway, you might find this ironic but the most "normal" part of your so-called joke song (if I could joke like this, I'd never be serious) actually annoyed me a little with all those 8th notes playing in guitar 2, I didn't particularly like that "hammering" rhythm. The rest of the riff is very good though, and the solo is amazing, especially that mode switch in 29-32. Loved it :P

Riff 2 is sick - great bass, and harmonisation between guitars, the solo wasn't quite as great (as the previous one at least), I think there are a bit too many "slideouts", which don't come out very well in the MIDI. Then comes Rumpy's part... great comedy there, lol. Good musical value as well, a *slightly* cheesy interlude never hurt anyone, plus there's that bar 111. Nice.

The following part is probably my favourite of the whole song. So "sleazy", even creepy :D. I used the gp scales to track down the modes throughout, and if I got it right you didn't strictly follow the mode in this part - which is good, gives it some extra interest (even if some of the D# didn't fit entirely imo). The transition back to "main riff" mode is handled very nicely, as is the end.

Overall - joke or not, it's a great song. Only the main riff got a tiny bit on my nerves, but it's a personal taste thing, never mind that.

An interesting modal song, with a mishmash of solos and riffs, unfortunately of varying quality...

Considering the format of the song (what I would aptly name a riff/wankfest), I'll do this one part by part.

Intro is awesome, really gives you that progressive, oncoming feel of awesomeness, and all the instruments are introduced cleanly and efficiently, very well pulled off. Reminds me a lot of PoS (Not piece of s**t, pain of salvation ;))

Main riff has a catchy leading melody, and then the solo comes in - it's technically great, as all your guitar works are, but the modal changes are sometimes too obvious for my tastes... comes off a bit wanky compared to your regular output.

Main riff variation is too long, turns what I considered catchy originally into a tedious passage.

And... then the bad starts.

Riff 2 drove me nuts, I really disliked it, yet for some reason the solo still sounded decent, which I found a bit weird. Still, I really, really don't like that riff. and the bass variation added to the headache, with the pounding china in the back on drums.

Interlude was pretty cool, I liked it, nice solo by mr Rumpy there - on the other hand, the drums are doing this polyrhythmic passage which ends up distracting the feel.

The modal vamp was really cool when it came in, nice fadein at bar 115, I liked the sleazy feeling it added. Actually the modal vamp riff sounded quite rumpy like to me =P. Then the improv solo comes in... nice at first, the harmonic squeals with your trademark heavy vibrato comes off really cool, and then I get the feeling the solo degenerates into total wank, for no apparent reason.

Nice doom feel post solo, I liked it, and the drum lead afterwards was extremely well done, nice polyrhytmics at some parts, great buildup, and overall very nice feel - Kudos for that and extra points from me, I rarely hear good drum solos anymore =(.

But seriously, did you have to add moar cowbell to the bridge? =P

Final variation to the main riff, yet this time I feel the intensity should have been much higher, considering what lead up to it.

The ending worked, but nothing much more than that.

Overall this is a very unsteady piece for me - The parts which are good are, as usual from you, excellently pulled off, but several parts just felt lackluster. Also it gave me absolutely no lasting impression, and no desire to listen to it again.

Best parts - Intro riff, drums post-solo /transition
Worst parts - Riff 2... ugh.

Final Rating - 3 stars.

The first 95 bars of this song I was thinking “good metal song, not great, good”… But then came that solo by rumpy, then the modal vamp the then the improve/solo, and there my head exploded… I wish the whole song was like that. I think the first parts were just space fillers. Why did you made the main riff so damn long! For some reason I liked the main riff at the end better than the one at the beginning… So that makes this song a “just-another-metal-song” and a “kick-ass-metal-song” hybrid… (just-kick-another-ass-metal-song? Hahaha I didn’t see that coming)…
