Ah, no worries... I'll do a bit more digging on this subject when I have the time (right now I don't, lots of studying to do).

why are you confused? I played the GP5 file without RSE, whilst recording through my soundcard into Creative Wavestudio. Why is that confusing?

Re: Open Competition April 2009 - Discussion

Because I didn't know you could change the MIDI sounds like that... is it a function of the soundcard, or Creative Wavestudio?

edit: nevermind, I'm a complete ignorant of the subject, it's best if you don't waste your time trying to explain it to me. I'll try and figure it out by myself.

Re: Open Competition April 2009 - Discussion

I didn't change any sounds. It may be a function of my Audigy2 ZS soundcard. They are midi sounds you hear; nothing to do with Creative Wavestudio.

Re: Open Competition April 2009 - Discussion

Yeah, my soundcard is just a generic Microsoft one, that must be it. To see better what I'm talking about, check out some of the songs in JazzDeath's myspace page (Desocialised). The MIDI on those sounds exactly the way I hear it on GP. Just never thought there'd be such a huge difference between MIDI sounds from soundcard to soundcard.

i don't have a link to JazzDeath's myspace. In any case, what I hear will not be what you hear, because we have different sound cards and set ups

It's not hard to find, just type "desocialised" in the search box. Btw, I hope you don't mind me using you as an example, Jazz.  smiley-rolleyes

When I compare the MIDI sounds of your songs and Jazz's, they sound completely different, on the same soundcard! (I suppose soundcard settings don't matter anymore once the mp3 conversion is done)

yep... mp3 is an audio archive, while MIDI isn't... a MIDI archive is like a "messenger" that has all the notes that will be played, but the MIDI device you use (the soundcard(?) ) is the one that puts the sounds (at least that's how I understand it), that's why in different PCs  the same MIDI archive will sound completely different...

oh and I use the "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth" too... it's lame, isn't it? ak

Yeah it sucks...  smiley-boredlook And there's no way to improve it aside from getting a new soundcard? Bugger.
Back on topic... aren't you going to resubmit your comp song? It seems to have been rejected.  smiley-unsure

Re: Open Competition April 2009 - Discussion

I've been away for a week, family emergency. Now I'm back, and I'll get validating right away.

I also have to remove myself from the list of competitiors, haven't got any time to work on a song.

Sorry for disappearing without a word, but that's life sometimes.

Re: Open Competition April 2009 - Discussion

This is weird, but it seems like there's some issue with validating right now, but I'll do it as soon as I can.

And don't worry, if a song is rejected for some small reason (like Empty bars etc), you'll have a chance to correct this, before the 17th. But the submission deadline is still today.

Re: Open Competition April 2009 - Discussion

Quick question - what is the story with who is officially in and out of the comp?
We have... what, 10 tabs validated? So when does the submission date officially end now??  smiley-unsure

Just wondering whether this is everyone who is in the comp now...

Contestants.
01. RumpyTheRubbuhChikin
02. blackiel
03. Generis Humani
04. kingsmurf420xxx
05. Quibokk
06. |_JR_|

08. Shade Of Blue
09. Beckkill
10. Blackdog
11. Kraken
12. beba nema zvecku
13. Daslaf
14. Richaod
15. undercover_ninja712
16. Jason Vearing

There are technically four people left to submit - are they still in?

Just wondering whether to post ratings with my comments - as well as actually post comments - I'm waiting for everyone to submit now before I post anything.

EDIT: Regarding my competition entry, it would be preferred that those who have GP5 look at that version - in the GP4 version, a certain part of the song that should have two voices doesn't. Haven't ever used GP4, so I'm guessing logically that GP4 doesn't support more than one voice. Annoying.
