whoa! long time since I've worked my way around a skeleton. count me in, should be fun trying this again, I'll admit it's a tough challenge. July will be a good month for some songwriting  smiley-walkman

*Looks at skeleton score*

...O_o What the hell, I'm just happy there seems to be quite a bit of leeway for heavier orientated stuff, otherwise I'd be totally screwed.

Now it's just 90% screwed.

Dude, I totally know what you mean, when I fisrt looked at the score I was soooo discouraged. I've been trying to write on it and so far let's say I'm doing OK but I know for sure what I'm doing sounds really weird lol.

Re: Skeleton Competition June/August 2009 - Sign up

I like the skeleton tab so far because it's so -not- the way that I write music, and therefore it's bringing me to write in ways that I normally wouldn't. For one thing, I normally hate the way the Rhodes Piano sounds, but I think I've managed to incorporate it into the introduction of the song in a way that doesn't sound bad. I've only gotten roughly 20 bars into the song so far, but I'm happy with how it's going. Any parts that might seem 'hard' to do...at least everyone else has to deal with the same problems, so no one is really at any advantage.

Re: Skeleton Competition June/August 2009 - Sign up

Well, I'm about halfway through it (I did start right in July 1st xD), and let's say it has varied levels of weirdness, from relatively normal to complete ear destroyer  smiley-blink  It's been a good challenge so far, biggest problem for me was to make everything flow from part to part (as you may have noticed yourselves), and orchestration in a 12-track song (I had never gone past 6-7 before).

And I love rhodes  smiley-biggrin

Well, biggest challenge for me was the goddamn Main Riff... that was a killer for someone who almost never ventures outside of 4/4...  smiley-rolleyes
Finally got something down a couple of days ago - and I've been doing okay since then, fortunately... I expect to trip up on the heavy riffage later on, though.

I suppose it is a nice challenge, though... although I was certainly frustrated at first...  smiley-tongue

ok, I'm done, can I submit it with the F5 notice of the original skeleton (you know, "this is the skeleton for etc etc") or do I have to change it?

I've made it to the chorus. I haven't had as much time as I would like, to put into writing, but I should be done in time, hopefully.

I'll finish up my song soon enough, just to give at least JR and Rumpy some support for the work they've done for this competition, but it's not really that great, and I really can't get it to sound the way I want it to.

Re: Skeleton Competition June/August 2009 - Sign up

Hi there,

it's been a while since I've come here.....
Is it too late to enter this comp ?
I just come back from 4 weeks of holydays in Australia and I was not really aware of this comp.

and if it' too late, is it possible to use the basic track for a simple composition ?

cheers,
Julien

EDIT : really tired, haven't even seen the deadlin on the 1st page, shame on me....
so count me in I have not really much time but it's going to be an interesting challenge.

EDIT2 :  woow we're the 27th of july !! didn't realise that, 4 days left so...
this is going to be the greatest f****** music challenge ever for me, I'm not used to compose in less than a few weeks/months (except for my song Mate a moa done in 1 afternoon but not that complicated).
I took a look at the basic track, do we have to keep the 150 bpm tempo fot the beginning ? I read on the 1st page that when indicated we have to but I don't know if we have to for the very begining
this is going to be crazy...

Re: Skeleton Competition June/August 2009 - Sign up

yep, you start at 150 bpm. then you go to 180, then back to 150 etc, as the markers indicate. the way you change (instant/gradual) is up to you
