just give it a try for fun !
I started it 2 nights ago, only 2 days (hum nights actually, I'm busy on days) left now, you can't be as late as me ! smiley-biggrin

I think I'll submit it for fun then re-orchestrate it later as a simple composition when I'll have time because this is going to be a bit raw, anyway the most important is to have fun  smiley-wink2

no you're not late, deadline for sign up and submission is 31st of july, so you have 2 days left (good luck ! smiley-smile  I signed up 2 days ago, I've done approximately half of the composition so far, I've never wrote a progressive song in a so short time  smiley-biggrin  )!
the skeleton track is in the  skeleton competition folder  smiley-wink2

Re: Skeleton Competition June/August 2009 - Sign up

I have a last question (and I checked this time, the asnwer is not written yet smiley-laugh ) :

at the end, when written "slow" solo, does it mean that we can/have to lower the tempo or that we have to write few notes and not a shred solo (anyway I don't plan to write shred on this song) ?

Re: Skeleton Competition June/August 2009 - Sign up

Hi all,

Well, I've made it past the "Infectious groove" section, and hopefully now with straight 4/4, a repeat of the chorus and a fade out ending, progress will be faster so I think I'll be able to make it (ie: you can count this noob in.)

I will definitely need to work on this until July 31 though, and I have a question:

I'm at GMT -05:00 here (Quebec Canada), and I'd like to know if it will affect the deadline on July 31 (like ending 5 hours before midnight here or something like it). Thanks in advance.

Yeah, please, judges and moderators, don't be too strict with the submisions, cause I think a couple of hours doesn't really matter.
There can be real troubles with submissions, you know...

Re: Skeleton Competition June/August 2009 - Sign up

I can't finish this on time. I had forgotten all about this comptetition cuz university is being so crazy. I'm actually failing two subjects and I need to do some extra work and I can't even pull off a very-last-day tabbing because the 31 is friday and I work fridays from 6am to 8pm... I you guys could see my eyebags...

Anyways, I'm sorry I couldn't finish and I'll make sure I check your stuff out.

no prob guys. I think that in the current face of the competition progress (one song in. woot?), I'm gonna push gen to be a bit lenient with the submissions

Well, I've already made all the ground, but it's really difficult to make 250 bars sweet in 24 hours.

Re: Skeleton Competition June/August 2009 - Sign up

I kept to the deadline and my song is done, I just have to do some mixing for all the tracks because right now it sounds a bit too chaotic at parts, and I'll submit it tonight! smiley-smile

gen, do we give them a few extra days? I propose three for a start, since there's a few people working, and this way we'll actually have a comp...

Re: Skeleton Competition June/August 2009 - Sign up

Mine is ready, I'll send it tonight, I'll see what I can improve until there but It won't be great, just... funny I think  smiley-biggrin

But Rumpy I think after this comp ends I'll rewrite and extend some parts (and add some instruments) because at this high tempo it's difficult to catch a melody, verses (especially the 2nd one) last a few seconds and are way too short; the jam part has the perfect length for me, and some main riff sections and all choruses.smiley-laugh
The fade outro as well I think I'll extend it, I used a transposed version of my intro theme  over a new riff and guitar/harp solo, but it's too short to recognize it (played only once) if you don't know it so I think I'll need more bars.
Anyway this was one of the most inspiring musical experience for me, so thanks a lot Rumpy I've had great fun and pleasure writing for your skeleton.  smiley-wink2

I'm about to start the last solo, so mine will be ready for tonight as well. I haven't even checked the GP4 though, and I'm expecting the worst  2i8d4ao. A few more days would probably only mean slightly better quality for the GP4 as far as I'm concerned. That said, I'd sure like to hear as many entries as possible!

+1: While scary at first, the skeleton was very well thought out and an absolute pleasure to work with.

Clock says I posted at 14h00, and it's 15h00 here! Whoohoo! I've gained an extra hour!

Oh my God, Julien is the best... Really, I had never thought that such a skeleton can sound like THIS.
Gorgeous!!!

Rumpy, say, how did you come up with such a skeleton? Was it just a random time signatures, or you had some kind of music in your mind already? smiley-laugh

Damn, I guess about 700 bars of skeleton would be okay for you, right? smiley-smile

haha !  smiley-laugh
thanks, but no I don't plan to extend it up to 700 bars don't worry, it's just that there are some parts that I'd like to be longer, like the 2nd verse which I think gives a "breathe" to the song (I mean, less instruments, less notes, more based on the mood) and as well the 2nd heavy riff, I'd like to extend it because it was fun to write it and it's too short. And the outro as well needs to be longer for me as I explained before, it also gives a "breathe" with a slower groove (I used half tempo) and different harmonies.
smiley-wink2

and I wrote it in only 4 nights which is really short for me, I'm a quite slow composer so I think I have to re-orchestrate some parts, but if you liked it then I'm glad, I was afraid that it could sound messy or raw smiley-smile

Well, I'm through with it: tab is in validation now, with all its imperfections. I just couldn't be bothered anymore to try to find the perfect balance between how it sounds with or without headphones. I use headphones all the time, and the sound is just so much better!

(there was a subliminal message in this post: use headphones when listening to my entry! (the GP5 version of course!)

Vathek, what's with the volume balance in your tab?
Or I guess you have anotherMIDI engine.

Re: Skeleton Competition June/August 2009 - Sign up

Damn! Is it that bad? The GP5 sounds pretty good here, even though the volume is a bit low (as I mentioned in the songs comments), and in all honesty, while the GP4's quality is definitely inferior, its still quite listenable here....

Anyone else got the same problem with my files? SIGH, I've had it with this GP thing, I've already had so many problems with it, ARGH!!

------------
DL, if you listened to the file without the RSE on, now I know what you mean - is that it? You gotta have the RSE on, otherwise I agree, it's complete nonsense.
-----------
2nd edit

Couldn't go to sleep without finding what was wrong, and for sure I've found it: shoulda upgraded it when the prog asked you smart guy! - I don't use GP all that much (I much prefer Harmony Assistant, which is in standard notation), and I was still using the 5.0 version. Well, I've upgraded it now, and oh surprise, the song is indeed an utter mess (yes, my precious GP5).

So well, I guess I'll wish you guys good luck, cause now I'm pretty much out. Meh. Was still fun to participate though  smiley-smile

Well, I've dabbled a bit with the 5.2 version, and it'll take forever to make the song sound as intended, so I'll be deleting the tabs waiting in validation. No point in submitting these "things" as they are now.
