GP6 not available for 64bit Ubuntu

Hi All,

Just bought GP6 for Ubuntu. Coool!

But my heart sank in depression when I realized that they only support 32bit DEB at the moment. tried to install with dpkg -i --force-architecture and finding 32bit dependency libs, to no avail. Crashes hard on my 64bit Ubuntu 9.10.

The company behind GP6 chose a wise software implementation: QT libraries which is supported on windows, Mac & Linux. That's why they can launch on three platform & same code.. Really cool.

I've written to help support for getting a 64bit version. I hope that they will release this edition soon.

Making a 64bit should be a no-brainer, since it's all about re-building everything on a 64bit version of their Ubuntu development system...

Anyway, will use the windows version on my laptop in the meantime..

Anybody have had success in getting GuitarPro6-r7840.deb installed & running on 64bit Ubuntu?

can't wait to get started on GP6!!!

I haven't tried, as I don't run GP on Linux anymore.
Does it install and fails to run, or does it refuse to install? In the former case, you might be able to identify the faulty libs and download the 32 bit version of them from the package repository - I think they're still available.

In the latter case, you're hosed :-) But it shouldn't take too long before they release a 64 bit executable.

Hi,

I've tried al possibilities on 64bit, no improvements. Just doesnt work.

No response yet from GP6 support team. Probably very busy guys now.

I had a 32bit Kubuntu 9.10 portable, and here it installed. I need to install the PulseAudio (sudo apt-get install pulseaudio), which integrates into kernel, etc. Then, GP6 worked with sounds & everything. However, when you dont know about PulseAudio, everything is new; new user interface applets, different behaviour.

The Guitar-Pro team should write a clear description about what to configure & install with (K)Ubuntu) to get everything working. Its not just "sudo apt-get install GuitarPro.deb"!

Well, it's a good step in the right direction for desktop linux multimedia users.

GP6 works really well on Ubuntu, smooth sounds, nice interface...

I've installed the 32bit deb on my Ubuntu 64bit machine. Here's the process I followed:

1. Open Terminal and enter the following commands:

wget http://frozenfox.freehostia.com/cappy/getlibs-all.deb

then enter:

sudo dpkg -i getlibs-all.deb

then enter:

getlibs /opt/GuitarPro6/GuitarPro

2. Once you've installed the above, then enter:

sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture guitarpro6.deb

(where 'guitarpro6.deb' represents the filename for the program - from memory, the current demo version filename of GP6 is GuitarPro6Demo-rev8217.deb)
