The Subways

The Subways is a British alternative rock band from Welwyn Garden City, a suburb of London, England. Formed in 2003, the band has four studio albums.

The band is made up of two brothers (Billy Lunn and Josh Morgan) plus Billy's ex-fiancée, Charlotte Cooper. It's not because he was afraid of being confused with Billy Corgan (singer of the Smashing Pumpkins) but in homage to his grandfather who bought his first guitar that Billy decides to choose Lunn as his last name >.

The group is formed very early when they were only 16 years old. It all starts when a friend of Billy takes him on a drive. He then makes him listen to Oasis Supersonic. It's the revelation. Billy learns guitar and competes in local bands. He is alone with his instrument and is thrown by the jury. He decides that if he wants to form a group, it will be a family.

He then embarks his little brother Josh on drums and Charlotte, a friend met at the pool, on the bass. After Billy teaches them to play, the trio begins to rehearse under the name of Mustardseed (name they will quickly change to Platypus). From Nirvana to Oasis to Sigur Ros, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth and Kylie Minogue, their influences are numerous and they can start composing their own songs. They make their debut in small local venues like The Square in Harlow, Essex. A first live CD will be recorded in this room and sold during their concerts. As their reputation grows, Billy starts to get tired of all the different names under which the band performs. He then arrives with the idea of The Subways in reference to an underpass crossing a roundabout in Welwyn Garden City, where Billy used to spend time with friends when he was in college> "It was a great place to get drunk and everything and there was a sign marked" Subway ". I sprayed the "The" in front and an "s" at the end and we joked that we were the band "The Subways" "
