The Barbarians

The Barbarians is an American garage rock band from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The group's activities last only three years, between 1964 and 1967.

Formed in 1964 in Cape Cod, Massachusetts by Bruce Benson (guitar), Ronnie Enos (guitar) and Jerry Causi (bass), it has the particularity of having a one-armed drummer: Victor Moulton, nicknamed "Moulty", appears with a hook in place of his left hand, having lost it at 14 in an explosion >>>. The group knows its hour of glory by appearing in the film T.A.M.I. Show alongside established artists such as Rolling Stones, Supremes, Chuck Berry and Marvin Gaye. Their singles Are You a Boy or Are You a Girl and Moulty have a small success; according to legend, the latter, in which the drummer humorously relates his life since his accident, would not have been recorded by the group, but by Levon and the Hawks, future The Band.

In 1967, Benson, Causi and Geoffrey Morris (who replaced Ronnie Enos in 1965) left the Barbarians to found the Black Pearl band. Moulton continues the adventure another year before the band disappears.

The song Ramones Do You Remember Rock 'n' Roll Radio?, Released as a single in 1980, mentions several rock artists from previous decades that have marked the band, including "Ol 'Moulty".
