Tankard

Tankard is a German thrash metal band from Frankfurt. Formed in 1982, the group defines its style, with punk influences, as being "alcoholic metal" because of its many songs about alcohol. The band has a strong base of fans from around the world, they are very close (they will often drink a few beers with them at the end of the concerts), which allows them to play in many international festivals.

Their producer, Harris Johns, runs parallel and until 2000, Helloween, Sodom and Voivod. Their manager has been, since 1986, Uwe "Buffo" Schnädelbach, who is also the editor of Rock Hard magazine and also a photographer in the music business. They are also fervent supporters of the German football club Eintracht Frankfurt (or SGE). They made a clip called Forza SGE.

The group is formed in 1982 by Andreas "Gerre" Geremia (vocals), Bernhard Rapprich (guitar), Oliver "O.W. Werner (drums) and Frank Thorwarth (bass). It will be called first Vortex then Avenger, and finally Tankard in 1983>. In 1984 and 1985, Tankard released two demos titled Heavy Metal Vanguard and Alcoholic Metal >. Tankard means "mug" in English.

Their first album, "Zombie Attack" , was released in 1986 under the label Noise Records. The following year, the band released "Chemical Invasion" , the first album with a cover designed by Sebastian Krüger. They will also perform their first tour as a result of this album. Nevertheless, their first real commercial success will be the following album The Morning After (1988). In 1989, they released Alien EP , first album on which appears the mascot of the group, a green extraterrestrial.
