The Vandals

The Vandals is an American punk rock band from Huntington Beach, California. He was trained in 1980 by guitarist Jan Nils Ackermann. The composition of the band changed a lot during the group's first nine years: Dave Quackenbush, singer of the group since 1985; drummer Josh Freese in 1989; Warren Fitzgerald (guitarist since 1987) and Joe Escalante; Escalante, passed from drummer to guitarist or bassist, is the only original member.

Since 2002, Escalante has been releasing all of the group's albums on Kung Fu Records, a label co-founded by Escalante and Fitzgerald. The group is well-known for its humorous and ironic lyrics, preferring to use their music more for fun and entertainment rather than for serious topics.

The Vandals formed in 1980 in Huntington Beach, California, by guitarist Jan Nils Ackermann. Then singer Steven Ronald "Stevo" Jensen (1959-21 Aug 2005)> is recruited, and he and Ackermann will relentlessly seek out other members to finally hire bassist Steve < "quote"> "Human" Pfauter and drummer Joe Escalante. Some of the first members are Steve Gonzales on bass and Vince Mesa on drums.

The group is quickly building a reputation in Los Angeles, California, and in the punk rock scene of Orange County which, at this time, includes bands like Bad Religion, Descendents, Black Flag, TSOL, X, Germs, Suicidal Tendencies, The Dickies, and Social Distortion. In 1982, the group became the second to sign on the Epitaph Records label, directed by Brett Gurewitz of the Bad Religion group, to which he released the EP Peace thru Vandalism. It includes songs selected by fans, and played in the 1990s, like Urban Struggle, which became a hit in the radio show Rodney on the ROQ.
