The Postal Service is an independent group composed of Death Cab For Cutie singer Benjamin Gibbard and producer Jimmy Tamborello. The duo has only one album, Give Up, released in 2003. Benjamin Gibbard has been the singer of Death Cab For Cutie since the 1990s. Jimmy Tamborello is an electronic music artist known in particular under the pseudonym Dntel. The Postal Service project was born as a result of Gibbard's collaboration with a Dntel song entitled" (This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan", on the album Life Is Full of Possibilities. Gibbard and Tamborello decided to continue their collaboration, creating The Postal Service. Tamborello composed audio tracks, sending the recordings by post to Gibbard, located on the other side of the United States, in December 2001. This is how the name "The Postal Service" was chosen. Give Up was released on February 18, 2003, and was followed by a tour, notwithstanding the fact that the two artists continued their respective work with their main projects. The disc, The Postal Service's only album to date, has become the most popular album on the Sub Pop label since Bleach from Nirvana>. In addition to Ben Gibbard on vocals, Give Up features the guest voices of Jenny Lewis (singer of the group Rilo Kiley) and Jen Wood. The album was produced by Death Cab For Cutie guitarist Chris Walla, who also plays guitar and piano on some tracks. The first piece on the disc, Such Great Heights, for which a video clip was made, was covered by Iron & Wine, then by Ben Folds and Streetlight Manifesto.
